How to Use
- Prepare the Area
- Work in a well‑ventilated area.
- Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of frost (especially in cold weather).
- Do not use soap for cleaning—silicone will not adhere to soap or detergent residue.
- Surface Preparation for Porous Materials
- Use sandpaper or a wire brush to remove loose particles, dust, and contamination before applying the silicone.
- Application
- Apply the silicone evenly to the prepared surface.
- Smooth or shape the bead as needed within the first 5 minutes, before it begins to form a skin.
- Curing and Drying Time
- Skins over: approximately 5 minutes
- Dry to the touch: around 1 hour
- Fully cured/bonded: 24 hours
- Maximum strength: achieved after up to 7 days depending on temperature and humidity.
Tips
- Ideal curing temperature: 75°F — allow 24 hours for full cure.
- This is an RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanization) product, meaning it begins curing when exposed to air (minimum 50°F) — more specifically, due to moisture in the air.
- Expect off-gassing during this process; it’s normal!
- Remove any old silicone before applying new sealant — fresh silicone bonds much better to a clean surface than to old sealant residue.
Additional Information
- ❌ Not NSF Certified — not recommended for food contact applications.
- ❌ Not paintable — latex paint adheres only to paintable sealants, not silicone.
- ✅ Safe for use on glass (ensure it’s clean before application).
- ✅ Safe on copper — provides a flexible, less permanent bond compared to Furnace Cement or Fireplace Mortar.
- 🌧️ Outdoor use: suitable once fully cured; becomes water‑resistant afterward.
- 🔥 Red silicone contains red oxide in its formula, which allows for a higher temperature rating.
